Airport's FlightPath Fund to deliver over £120,000 in 2024 to support local communities

Airport's FlightPath Fund to deliver over £120,000 in 2024 to support local communities

The FlightPath Fund is making more than £120,000 available this year to help support community groups, charities and sustainability-themed projects local to Glasgow Airport.

The Fund’s committee is once again urging neighbouring groups and organisations to submit applications and is also keen to support sustainability-themed projects aimed at improving the environment in the communities local to the airport.

An awards package of £120,000 is available in 2024 to projects and groups of all sizes based in each of the four local authorities supported by Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund – Renfrewshire, the northwest area of Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire.

Passengers who travel through the airport also play they part in supporting the work of the FlightPath Fund via the numerous donation globes places throughout the terminal. Last year almost £10,000 in spare currencies from across the world was collected from the globes.

Archie Hunter, Chair of the FlightPath Fund, said: “Once again Glasgow Airport has invested significantly to ensure that dozens of fantastic causes in the surrounding communities will benefit from its continued success.

“This latest tranche of funding takes us a step closer to almost £2 million in support since the FlightPath Fund was introduced back in 2010, which is simply incredible. The airport deserves huge credit for making sure that hundreds of neighbouring organisations, clubs and charities of all shapes and sizes have received support over the years.”

In 2023, 62 separate groups and charities received more than £120,000 in support. Awards included £4,700 to help unpaid carers in Clydebank, £5,000 to fund the purchase of a safety boat for a sea scout group in Renfrew, £800 to purchase a defibrillator for community first responders in Milngavie and £5,650 to ensure 10 primary schools could take part in a national STEM project.
