Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund has awarded £1000 help a Renfrew-based high school purchase boxes of dyslexia-friendly books.
Trinity High School’s librarian, Andrew Kerr, applied to the FlightPath Fund as part of a wider improvement project to upgrade materials and the reading space at the well-used resource.
The popular library is a partnership between Trinity High School and OneRen, the local authority’s charitable trust providing leisure, culture and sporting opportunities across Renfrewshire.
The award from the FlightPath Fund allowed the library to invest in books to improve literacy and appeal to reluctant readers and are now being put to good use.
Andrew Kerr, who has been the librarian at the library since 2005, said: “We are very grateful to the FlightPath Fund as the award has enabled the library to purchase dozens of books that will play an invaluable part in improving literacy and attainment at Trinity High School.”
More than £115,000 is being made available to good causes through Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund in 2023.
Projects and groups of all sizes based in each of the four local authority areas supported by Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund – Renfrewshire, Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire – can apply for support.
The Fund’s committee is urging neighbouring groups and organisations to submit applications and is also keen to support sustainability-themed projects aimed at improving the environment in the communities local to the airport.
The FlightPath Fund was established in 2010 to provide financial support to community groups and charities that are committed to improving the opportunities, facilities and services available to local people. Funding awards have continued to focus on three key areas:
- Employment - We recognise the importance of making sure the future workplace is equipped with the skills that society and industry demands and, by supporting specific projects, we aim to help young people in the community reach their full potential. Awards will be given to exciting local projects that can break down barriers to employment through skills development.
- Environment - To underpin our commitment to making a positive contribution to the environment, the FlightPath Fund supports projects with a focus on protecting and enhancing our natural environment.
- The FlightPath Fund supports social and educational projects which are designed to bring positive benefits and to change the lives of people in the communities we serve.
The FlightPath Fund’s committee, which includes elected representatives from each of the four local authorities bordering Glasgow Airport, meets regularly throughout the year to consider all applications made and to allocate any agreed financial support.
The FlightPath Fund 2023 meeting dates this year are as follows:
- June 16
- September 1
- November 3
- December 8
